Ord der gør ondt - om dødsannoncer før og nu

Dansk abstract: Studiet af dødsannoncer – og forandringer heri – fortæller meget om vores samfunds opfattelse af døden. Man kan ud fra indholdet af og strukturen på dødsannoncer iagttage nogle grundlæggende forandringer i, hvordan man offentligt tilkendegiver et dødsfald og udtrykker sorg over tabet af en elsket. I denne artikel præsenteres en række begrundelser for, hvorfor man bør studere dødsannoncer, såvel som en kort gennemgang af nogle udvalgte udviklingstræk og eksempler fra danske dødsannoncer fra det 20. og 21. århundrede som et udtryk for en mere fundamental forandring i vores opfattelse af døden i almindelighed.

Engelsk abstract: The study of death notifications – and the changes in these – can be indicative and informative about our society’s understanding of death. From studying the content and structure of death notices one can see some fundamental changes in how death is publicly announced as well as how people publicly express mourning of the loss of a loved one. In this article the author initially presents and subsequently provides a short outline of some selected developmental tendencies and examples from Danish death notifications from the 20th and 21st centuries as expressions of a change in our attitudes towards death in general.
