Abstract

The chapter is on parallel processes and their formation in clinical supervision. In the beginning the concept of parallel processes is determined in it's many variations. Parallel process is a key concept in psychoanalytic supervision and refers to a relation or a theme in the psychotherapy session that is reflected in the supervision or vice versa. The chapter then focuses on different aspects on the formation of parallel processes: Where does the formation take place? In whom and under which circumstances will this formation take place? The patient's, the therapist's the supervisors, the relational and contextual contributions to the formation is discussed. Finally the influence of frame, setting, thematic content and processl on the formation of parallel processes is dealt with.
