    Abstract

It is a pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2007 International Computer Music Conference, hosted in Copenhagen from the 27th to the 31st of August.

ICMC2007 is organized by Re:New - Digital arts forum, in collaboration with the International Computer Music Association and Medialogy at Aalborg University. ICMC is the largest conference of its kind, and it has been organized yearly since 1974. We are happy to have ICMC back in Denmark after the 1994 ICMC that took place in Aarhus.

We would like to thank the technical program committee, the program committee and the reviewers who have been really efficient in providing feedback and comments on the numerous papers submitted. The response to the call for participation was very positive. We received 290 paper submissions and 554 music submissions. We are extremely grateful for the interest and support from around the world.

It is an honor to welcome John Chowning, pioneer on digital music, and Barbara Tillmann, researcher in music cognition as our keynote speakers.

This years' theme, 'Immersed Music', will be covered by numerous sessions related to perception and cognition, and by Barbara Tillmanns' keynote. In addition, we have planned two concerts at the DGI-byen swimming hall, and underwater music installations in Copenhagen. The venue of the paper sessions will be the Royal School of Architecture at Holmen Island. This venue is situated close to a station of the water busses, which enables the ICMC delegates to make use of the Copenhagen water busses when going to and from the paper sessions.  In addition to the concerts at DGI-byen, concerts are proposed at the Royal Library, at the Planetarium, at the PLEX venue and the night concerts and installations are taking place at Huset in Magstræde.

We are confident that the quality of the ICMC music submissions will enable everybody to enjoy the ICMC concerts fully. As a second major theme, we are happy to present several concerts involving collaborations between new circus and computer music artists. We have organized a one week Artists in residence to investigate the possibilities in this area. We hope that in addition to the brain, the body and the heart will help everybody enjoy the ICMC music. We are proud to offer five workshops taking place on August 26th, ranging from new techniques for sound design, algorithmic composition, EEG measurement of brain activity in music listening and interactive music and circus.

The cross-disciplinary nature of ICMC is well represented by the Medialogy education, a new initiative started in Esbjerg and now well established in Copenhagen.
