Promoting collaborative quality in e-learning in a global arena

This paper addresses the challenge of designing a successful online Master programme in e-Learning (MIL) as a collaborative endeavour between five different universities. The five partner universities behind MIL collaborate, using the same overall model as the one offered to the learners. The fundamental philosophical, pedagogical and methodological design perspective underlying MIL is one, which envisions learning through bottom-up processes of collaboration across time and space as a necessity in achieving a high level of educational quality. It is also one, which works from the assumption that quality in eLearning should be found, not only at the level of collaboration between dispersed learners (the "receivers"), but also at the level of collaboration between "providers". The paper describes and discusses aspects of the overall design model used and its specific pertinent design criteria and features. Finally, while the paper reviews and reports on the collaborative processes of five years of successful implementation, it takes a look to the future challenges of 2006 implied in launching MIL on a global, international arena.
