Abstract

Highlights
•16% of the 9370 drivers and passengers in the struck cars reported neck injuries.
•No association between risk of neck injury and a tow-bar in a rear-end collision.
•Females had a much higher rate of neck injury than males.
•The passenger seat was associated with a higher injury rate than the driver's seat.
•Younger and older persons had lower injury rates than middle-aged.
