Abstract

Sense of place refers to the phenomenological relationship between humans and collectives, and their environments. This relationship has been investigated in various ways. Humanistic geography focuses on the human phenomenological texturing of abstract space into meaningful places. Environmental psychology studies place evaluation and place attachment. Sociology and cultural anthropology emphasize the moral ordering of emplaced communities and the collective meaning of place, particularly in indigenous communities.
