abstract = "The chapter focuses on the airport city concept. Questions such as what is an airport city, why do we need this concept and whether the concept can be contested are discussed in this chapter. The chapter firstly introduces aeromobilities research as a theoretical foundation for understanding and analysing airport cities. Secondly, the changing historical role of airports within the contemporary society is explored. Thirdly, a number of conceptual notions of the airport city are analysed, including some of the more problematic perspectives of the concept. Here, the chapter argues for a holistic, interdisciplinary and future-orientated approach to airport city development. Finally, the chapter{\textquoteright}s concluding remarks are made.",
