Abstract
For an erbium-doped DBR planar waveguide laser, the impact of internal waveguide losses on the grating design have been studies using a numerical model. The result show that laser performance is strongly dependent on the modulation strength and the length of the grating, and that there exsists and optimal value of the modulation strength for a given length of the gratings.
