Abstract

In this case study I share some very positive results in music therapy with an adult psychiatric male patient with personality disorders. I am working with improvisational music therapy based on a psychodynamic udnerstanding of the process. I have chosen to frame the case study by dividing the case retrospectively into six significant phases in the therapeutic process. For each phase I will describe the most important verbal metaphors and statements the patient brings into the process, as these are used as guidelines for the aim and direction of the therapy process. I will also provide vignettes to illustrate methodology and techniques applied in the musical relationship we built up together during the treatment.
