Abstract

Fuel cells can increase the efficiency of the energy system and electrolysers can help enable a de-carbonisation of the energy supply. In this chapter we explain the role of fuel cells in future energy systems together with the role of electrolysers in smart energy systems with increasing penetrations of intermittent renewable resources in the electricity grid increases the demand for smart energy systems.
