Abstract

This introductory chapter provides an overview of different theoretical approaches to the social shaping of technology and discusses issues like the conceptions of actors and structures and conceptualizations of closure, stability and power. Further, it provides a review of the different chapters in the book, pointing at the possibilities for social shaping of CAPM and CIM through international, national and company internal processes of technology transformation.
