    Abstract

Three music therapy researchers from three different countries who have recently completed their PhD theses will each briefly discuss the role of video analysis in their investigations. All three of these research projects have involved music therapy work with children, some of whom were on the autistic spectrum. Brief video clips will be shown and workshop participants will be invited to use different micro analysis approaches to record information from the video recordings. Through this process the participants will explore some of the advantages and disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection. In addition, participants will be encouraged to reflect on what types of knowledge can be gained from video analyses and to explore the general relevance of video analysis in music therapy research.
