Abstract

One of the biggest challenges in wind farm management is to cope with requirements from the grid companies and to optimize efficiency and minimize wear on wind turbines. This paper addresses an optimized active power dispatch strategy of a wind farm to reduce the fatigue load of wind turbines, while the wind farm is following certain power references given by the network operator. The damage equivalent loads are included in the objective function by means of lookup tables generated under a series of working conditions. A Modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem. The proposed dispatch strategy is compared with the proportional dispatch strategy under different scenarios. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
