    Description

DIR seminar Transnational state agencies and NGOs: The dynamics of development and underdevelopment Time Monday 27. May 2013 at 10:00 - Tuesday 28. May 2013 at 16:00 CGS-DIR (IGAR) Seminar on: The Transnational & Development: NGOs & global governance Monday 27th May 2013 at 10:00 - Tuesday 28th May 2013 at 16:00 Aalborg University, Kroghstræde, 3 The seminar National Donor agencies such as USAID and DANIDA and other Inter-governmental organizations (IGO) such as the World Bank increasingly recognize the significance of transnational NGOs the need to coordinate developmental efforts with them. States and related IGO (intergovernmental organizations) admit that in certain areas non-governmental actors performed better in achieving development strategies faster and more efficient. On their part transnational NGOs consider themselves as real bottom agents for social empowerment and justice. Such organizations though partially depending on state funding provide direct relief and support for wide range of areas with social, political and economic consequences. The seminar reflects and discusses the general theoretical debate and rationale on the emergence, role and activities of transnational NGOs and their contribution to development. Furthermore the seminar introduces selected transnational NGO empirical cases and examines their impact on development particularly on their complementary and occasionally conflicting roles with international and multinational Development aid agencies such as USAID, SIDA, DANIDA and the World Bank.
