SCANNING TUNNELING MICROSCOPY LAB

    Facility: Laboratory

      Equipments Details

      Description

The Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) laboratory is equipped with two STM’s operating under Ultra High Vacuum condition. One at room temperature and one at cryogenic temperatures (5 K). This makes it possible to perform imaging with atomic resolution and spectroscopy with meV energy resolution. It is possible to apply a magnetic field (up to 2 T) to the sample under investigation. The setup contains a range of in-situ sample preparation and deposition sources to perform sputtering, annealing, evaporation of metals to grow thin films and nanostructures, and deposition sources of molecules (both thermal sublimation and electrospray from solution). Surface diffraction using Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) is also available.
