Description
Only males have a Y chromosome, which can be expoited in certain DNA analyses. One way is Y-STR, which is a typing method (a way to obtain DNA profiles) called short tandem repeat (STR) on the Y chromosome.
Y-STR has certain advantages (and some disadvantages) compared to autosomal STR, which is based on the 22 autosomale (non-sex) chromosome pairs. For example is Y-STR useful in rapes where the victim's DNA profile doesn't pollute the male offenders'. This project aims at developing statistical methods for analysing Y-STR data.
