Abstract

Variable inductor is an important element used as a magnetic regulator in electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps. The developed control strategies include lamp soft starting, lamp dimming and maximum power point tracking by varying the inductance of the variable inductor [1-4]. Different resonant tanks have been compared and experimentally verified to predict the dimming range of the ballast [5]. A current-controlled variable-inductor is commonly used in these magnetic regulator topologies today.
