Beskrivelse

With the widening of a previously narrow definition to encompass other traditions, the horizon of historiography expands beyond the limits of a fixed genre to include a range of approaches to the past. As a result of such an approach, all sources – not just historiographical texts – will in principle be relevant if they transmit knowledge. But even if we look only at historians, the decision of whether to use a ‘literary’ or ‘historical’ approach to the material is less important than the consideration of the sources as transmitters of knowledge.
