Development of LCA usability and method for the build environment

Projektdetaljer

Beskrivelse

The aim of the project is to make it easier to reduce environmental impact of buildings by further developing the industry tool, LCAbyg.

Buldings have large impacts on the environement. To reduce this, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of buildings is increasingly used. In Denmark, the focus on the use of LCA for buildings have increased within the last decade. This resulted in the development of the national tool LCAbyg to perform LCA on buildings.

This project develops the tool LCAbyg towards better integration with existing design tools used by architects and engineers. Integration with existing design tools have obvious potentials in efficiency. Furthermore integrating LCA with design tools will encourage use of the tool in the early design stages, to make informed decisions on materials and design.

Further, the project will investigate implementation of renovation projects in LCAbyg. Renovation projects have a large potential to reduce impacts compared to new buildings because most materials already exist in the project and renovation initiatives can help reduce the operational energy use of the building.
