Operation of the modern distribution systems has gained a lot interest in the past decade. Although power electronics-based disperse generation can bring sufficient generation close to load and so can maintain the power supply in the event of faults, but the resilience offered by a power electronics based power system will be in risk if the power converter is not properly protected during the short-circuit faults that occur within its own boundaries. So far, the studies on AC/DC power electronics-based grid protection has not led to a commercial relays specifically designed for power electronics applications. Thereby, it is of significant importance to analyze the reliable operation of the multi-parallel converters under faults situations based on current available devices and more importantly improve its consistency by applying new control strategies.
This project is focused on power converter’s control and their application in AC-DC system in order to introduce effective protection strategies in these systems.
