The innate immune system: Ontogeny and role in inflammatory diseases

Projektdetaljer

Beskrivelse

-Development of the innate immune system in the newborn.
-Neutrophil granulocytes and neutrophil extracellular traps in inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease.
-Role of complement system in sepsis.

Nøgleresultater

-Immune system develops consistently only hours after birth.
-The classical complement activation pathway and membrane attach complex (MAC, or terminal complement complex TCC) are prioritized and may be central for newborn immune protection to pathogens.
-Neutrophil extracellular traps are invovled in the ulcerative colitis (UC) inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) etiology.
-Sepsis may be connected to evading complement system activation.
