Abstract
The new MiDAS field guide (www.midasfieldguide.org) is a comprehensive database of microbes in wastewater treatment systems. It is based on MiDAS 3.1 taxonomy, which for the first time proposes putative names for all the genus- and species-level microorganisms in activated sludge and anaerobic digesters. These names act as unique identifiers across the independent studies. MiDAS field guide integrates the identity of the microbes with the available functional information into a community knowledge web platform; it also provides the possibility to classify sequences using MiDAS 3.1 taxonomy directly online. Our database now covers more than 1800 genera and 4000 species found in biological nutrient removal treatment plants. The website provides a searchable database of referenced information about microbes present in this ecosystem acting as a central, on-line repository for current knowledge where all are welcome to contribute.
