Description

Aalborg University's Center for Molecular Prediction of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (PREDICT) has contributed to a study that found inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) begin long before symptoms occur. The study used electronic health records from Denmark, comparing 20,000 people with an IBD diagnosis with controls from 4.6 million people without IBD. Marie Vestergaard, a PhD student at PREDICT, says the research could help predict who could potentially suffer from IBD and start treatment earlier. Tine Jess, director at PREDICT, states that the findings are novel and understanding the exact mechanisms behind IBD development is essential to ultimately prevent the diseases from occurring.
