Commentary: Why the global democratic alliance is nothing more than a Western fantasy

Capitalism has made big portions of the world depend on the West, according to Xing Li, director of the Research Centre on Development and International Relations, Department of Politics and Society at Aalborg University. Despite the talk about democracy, political liberalism and equal opportunities, the capitalism of the West also possesses authoritarian aspects. As a big part of the world economically depends on the West, it is difficult for these countries to become politically and culturally independent from the West.
