Beskrivelse

Recently the development of the location based services has initiated
research on finding the optimum positioning solution in environments
which are problematic for stand-alone satellite based positioning. These
environments usually are characterized by heavy obstruction of satellite
signals, high multipath, and signal attenuation. They can vary from
urban canyons with a few number of visible satellites and poor geometry
of observed constellation, to indoor case where line of sight for
signals from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) are almost absent
and the lock on the signal is too short to extract all the necessary
data. This is a contemporary problem in positioning and navigation area.
Most solutions employ either Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) or Global System
for Mobile Communications (GSM) networks to perform the positioning, but
both of them lack the accuracy and generality of GNSS. Additionally,
accurate Wi-Fi based positioning is tightly coupled with the environment
and is restricted to small areas and requires substantial calibration
effort. The metropolitan scale Wireless Positioning System (WPS) lacks
accuracy.

The research is aimed at the fusion of the GNSS and Wi-Fi positioning
methods in order to create a ubiquitous, self calibrating, and accurate
positioning solution.
