Novel biomarkers for improving outcomes for patients with osteoarthisis and impact of chronic prosthetic joint infections

Project Details

Description

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the leading causes of disability, pain and loss of quality of life in humans. There is an urgent need for better prognostics and therapeutics for those suffering from OA, as well as early diagnostics and novel interventions for all the people in risk of developing the disease. Hitherto, no cure exists for OA leading to long-term cronic disability. Knee replacement prosthetic joint surgery may result in adverse effects if bacterial infections occur joint. However, an experimetal approach using nano-gold particles indicate a high potential for triggering regenerative effects in OA patients, thus, enabling potential regenerative effects.
In this Innovationskraft project we aim to employ a highly innovative combination of proteomics based strategies and informatics based investigations to validate biomarkers for nano-gold particle treatment outcome and mature biomarker for serological assays indicative of tissue degradation and sepsis in OA.
