Abstract
In the Danish public debate, the threat of terrorism has regularly been brought to the fore since the controversy over Jyllands-Posten’s publication of the Muhammad cartoons in 2005 brought Denmark to the front of the imagined clash between Islam and the West that, not least, the post-2001 climate of the ‘war on terror’ had carried (Hervik 2008). Since then, the image of Denmark as a primary target for Islamist terror seems to have established itself as a solid narrative informing the Danish self-image, as represented in the public debate.
