Abstract
This paper proposes a multilevel compact two stages DC/AC converter for PV applications by employing GaN-HEMT devices. The proposed converter includes interleaved DC/DC stage and an seven level DC/AC stage. In the proposed converter, the low input current ripple can be obtained due to the interleaving structure in the DC/DC stage while the higher switching frequency can be achieved in the DC/AC stage without sacrificing the switching loss because of the multilevel ANPC topology. Moreover, a detailed component optimization and control algorithm is presented in the paper. A 4.8 kW compact natural cooling PV converter with a 1.37 kW/L power density was developed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed converter.
