Abstract

Background and Aims: A new strategy for classification of diabetes technology (DT) was introduced in 2020‐2021. In 2022, a comprehensive data review was conducted to establish a baseline for the usage of DT in the Region of North Denmark (RN). Every person got a new classification based on the strategy in the period of 2018 to 2022. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of DT and enhance the data quality and accuracy in this field.

Methods: The patients were identified using various sources, including lists from the EPR and appointments related to DT. Each patient identified underwent manual verification to ensure accurate classification. Descriptive tables stratified by gender and age were made to provide an overview of the prevalence.

Results: A total of 1,701 patients were reviewed. Of these, 1,216 were from Department of Endocrinology in Aalborg and 485 from Department of Endocrinology in Hjørring. In Aalborg, 54.5% used stand‐alone FGM (612 patients), followed by insulin pumps and FGM at 24.8% (279 patients), and insulin pumps and CGM at 10.2% (114 patients). Stand‐alone insulin pumps were used by 7.8% (88 patients), and stand‐alone CGM by 2.7% (30 patients). In Hjørring, 71.1% used stand‐alone FGM (308 patients), 15% used insulin pumps and CGM (65 patients), and 10.6% used insulin pumps and FGM (46 patients). Stand‐alone insulin pumps were used by 1.4% (6 patients), and stand‐alone CGM by 1.9% (8 patients).

Conclusions: This study determined the prevalence of DT and shows the great and positive influence of classification of DT on data quality and accuracy.
