Abstract

One of the main attractions found at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin is Sony Center, a "brandscape" that appeals and communicates to experientially and culturally minded audiences of citizens and tourists. Apart from commercial and cultural venues Sony Center contains apartments, numerous cafés and restaurants. Among them are the Café Josty and the Kaisersaal from the Grand Hotel Esplanade, a famous hotel which was almost destroyed during World War 2. This presentation aims at analysing and discussing how architecture, heritage elements and spatial layout at Potsdamer Platz develop what can be understood as possible autographic experiences that (re)generate this once central urban structure.
