title = "Sand Negro",
abstract = "In this article, I look at what is involved (and at stake?) when identity is negotiated between minoritized and majoritized positions? I address some tensions which incur during such negotiations. A point I emphasize is that these positions are constructed within a shared ideological framework. The discussion centers around how persons in a shared context, who are racialized differently and have differing vantage points and perspectives, must navigate within a particular, asymmetric power relationship. I implement Gayatri Spivak{\textquoteright}s notion of the sovereign subject to come to an understanding of some of the factors that lie under the surface of such negotiations. Questions of power, identity, entitlement, as well as navigation within differing experiences of acknowledgement and validation, are just a few of the elements that seem to make up this type of complex experience. The article is centered around a single narrative which describes an interchange between two Danish university students.",
