Personal profile

Research profile

My research focuses on data management, knowledge graphs, and privacy-aware data analytics. I am particularly interested in methods that make complex, heterogeneous, and sensitive data easier to integrate, query, analyse, and reuse.
A central part of my work concerns knowledge graph construction and semantic data integration, with applications in domains where data is distributed, evolving, or difficult to access directly. I also work on privacy-preserving analytics, synthetic data generation, privacy metrics, and methods for evaluating the utility and risks of data-driven systems.
I am interested in combining symbolic and statistical approaches, including knowledge representation, graph-based methods, machine learning, and large language models. My research often addresses practical challenges in interdisciplinary settings, including health and biomedical data, scholarly data, and data-intensive digital infrastructures.
I currently contribute to research on heterogeneous semantic data integration for the gut-brain interplay, with a focus on privacy-aware and reusable data infrastructures. More broadly, my work aims to support trustworthy data science: systems and methods that enable data use while respecting privacy, provenance, interpretability, and domain expertise.

Teaching profile

I currently teach Data Privacy and Security (DVML), Learning and Advanced Analytics of Graph Data (DVML) and Database Development (BaIT, IxD and DAD).
I value project-oriented and problem-based learning, where students work with realistic data challenges and learn to connect conceptual models, algorithms, software systems, and domain requirements. In my teaching and supervision, I encourage students to develop strong technical skills while also reflecting on issues such as data quality, privacy, transparency, reproducibility, and societal impact.
I supervise student projects related to databases, data integration, graph data management, knowledge representation, machine learning for data management, privacy-preserving analytics, and applications of large language models, particularly in health, biomedical, and scholarly data contexts.

PhD Supervision

I am interested in supervising PhD projects in data management, knowledge graphs, semantic data integration, privacy-preserving analytics, and trustworthy data science.
Relevant PhD topics include, but are not limited to, knowledge graph construction and enrichment, graph-based data integration, dataset discovery and recommendation, privacy-aware synthetic data generation, privacy metrics, federated and distributed data workflows, and the use of large language models for structured knowledge extraction and data management.
I am particularly interested in projects that combine strong technical contributions with interdisciplinary applications, for example in health, biomedical, scholarly, or other data-intensive domains where data is heterogeneous, sensitive, distributed, or difficult to reuse.
