Description
Despite the lack of scholarly attention and under commercial and digital pressures, letters to the editor is an institution in the Danish press safe-guarding democratic participation. In this project, we map out quantitatively who and how Danish citizens are given a voice in letters to the editor in national printed media and in what capacity they are enabled to speak and be heard. Through ethnographic studies, we aim to further investigate how the voices of citizens circulate and become part of the journalistic and political institutions. The knowledge procured through this investigation will lay the groundwork for developing methods with which to measure, assess, and improve the journalistically mediated public debate
