The city can (maybe) be understood as a memory system, with different characteristics of physical spaces (space geometry, transitions, color, light etc.) and landmarks serving as mnemonic devices for individuals. This project explores the relationship between memory, as a cognitive function, and the built (and natural) environment using virtual reality technology as a methodology. The study investigates how architecture and urban design can/do shape the cognitive function of memory in relation to creating better health and well-being in transition toward sustainable cities.
