Different approaches in practice research

Abstract

This chapter presents different practice research approaches within the same related “family”. It is probably naive to believe that practice research can position itself outside traditional scientific discussions and definitions and consequently needs to look for definitions and perceptions both within other fields and within practice research itself during its presentation and discussion. Although the main elements in practice research emphasize that the research is conducted and discussed jointly by participating partners, there are different levels and intensities of the collaboration. This implicates that the roles and positions of the participants are unique within the different approaches in practice research. Introducing practice research approaches is not a crusade against other possible approaches or a way to make researchers, social workers, service users or other kinds of stakeholders jump out as newborn practice research crusaders.
