Abstract
The domain of Cadastre and Land Administration is multi-disciplinary. Thus, a conventional search for theoretical foundations lead to findings, which appear too disparate and tentative to become formed into a commonly agreed base. Research in ontology engineering emerged at the turn of the century and offered an alternative path for achieving scientific rigor in terms of knowledge organization systems. Early engagement in that respect was halted and was later redirected in terms of thesaurus development. Now the time seems reap for returning to ontology eliciting. The purpose of this paper is to review ontology-related research within the domain and its geospatial context. Volume and time restrictions allow only a rude and incomplete review, which is nevertheless prepared to invite comments from the KOS community.
