Abstract

This chapter focuses on positive psychology coaching in the context of health and wellbeing. It also focuses on the lifestyle behaviours of nutrition/diet and physical activity and the physiological and psychological outcomes related to these habits. The lifestyle behaviours of nutrition and physical activity are, for the most part, choices that an individual makes on a daily basis. There are many behaviour change models and theories that attempt to predict and explain lifestyle-related behaviour change. In other words, theory can help a coach to identify what the issues are for an individual coachee and to determine an appropriate and bespoke approach to change that involve specified steps, influenced by research outcome studies relating to specific techniques and strategies. Positive psychology coaching for health and wellbeing can help people who are either generally healthy, that is, promotion and prevention, or suffering from some level of recognised illness or disease, that is, management.
