Abstract
Solid seperation in retention basins is strongly non-linear and depends significantly on the flow rate and the settling characteristics of the particles. Accordingly the calculation of the annual loads of pollutants from storm overflows including basins is rather complex and time consuming.
The paper describes how laboratory investigations and CFD-modelling of flow dependant particle separation in retention basins are combined with long-simulation of storm water overflows including basins based on historical time series of rainfalls also taking into account the flow dependant solid seperation in order to calculate annual loads of pollutants from urban catchments. The study cover Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn and PAH.
