Description
Invited keynote at Roomvent 2024, April 22-25, Stockholm, SwedenIndoor environmental control can be approached from several perspectives, i.e. health, resilience, environmental impact, a.o. energy efficiency or individual perception. The answers on how much control should be given to individuals are ambivalent, depending on those diverging perspectives. Introducing those diverging perspectives first, the keynote will subsequently introduce the main influencing factors on the degree of personal control perceived by humans, pointing towards the need for contextualised control concepts. Finally, a design approach on how to design for adequate personal control will be introduced, supporting building and system designers, planners and operators in designing, implementing and maintaining suitable control concepts.
