Abstract
Research-integrated teaching is used world-wide to provide students with meaningful learning opportunities. However, the integration of research and teaching poses challenges, which need to be navigated when implementing this approach. The chapter discusses five challenges or tensions within research-integrated teaching, namely the tension between research and teaching; the tension between domain-specific and project-based curricula; the tension between paradigmatic knowledge and epistemological pluralism; the focus on processes vs. products and the tension between teachers/students vs. communities of practice.
