Abstract

Some memories are about facts, and some deeply touch us emotionally. Other memories make our bodies carry out sequences of movements; for example, playing a piece of music we know by heart. We may know a person or a piece of music, but for some reason, cannot recall the name, although it is just on the tip of our tongue. Other times we are invaded by memories or involuntary musical imageries (earworms) that are highly distracting and make us lose focus. Music and memory are tightly connected. Music plays a remarkable role in cognition and reminiscence and is a strong trigger for memories. Therefore, music may play an important part of therapeutic interventions for persons with memory disorders.
