Scrum Trainer at Scrum.org, Christiaan Verwijs, has formulated five guidelines for best practice of scrum teams. Based on a scientific study, in cooperation with Associate Professor Daniel Russo at University of Aalborg, he concludes, that 1) most teams are 5-10 members, 2) smaller teams perform slightly better, 3) the diminishing returns of large teams are well supported by scientific evidence, and 4) psychological safety is higher in small teams.
