Abstract

Studies of the importance of manager characteristics in crisis management are few. This study develops direct and moderating hypotheses for the relationship between key first-line manager characteristics, early innovation adoption and crisis scenarios, and hypotheses testing using survey data for the early adoption of infection preventive measures during the COVID-19 pandemic in Danish eldercare. Findings suggest that manager characteristics such as education level, eldercare job tenure and previous experience are important to early innovation adoption in crises. The study contributes to the crisis management literature by emphasizing the importance of first-line manager characteristics in effective crisis management.
