Project Details

Description

There is an ever-increasing demand for sustainable plant proteins for food and a huge potential in extracting such proteins from green biomasses. Grass4Food deals with the development of a process for high-quality food protein from clover grass and alfalfa. In 2019, laboratory-scale work was carried out on a membrane filtration process for extraction of food protein and
the experiences must be used in this project to optimize and scale up the process on a pilot scale. Once the process has been developed, it must be used for building a prototype that will enable simultaneous production of food and feed protein. The overall concept, incl. handling of
side streams, must be integrated into a BiomassProtein™ protein factory in GreenLab Skive, which stakeholders in the area are in the process of obtaining capital for building in collaboration with Vestjyllands Andel. The development of the food protein process will take place in close collaboration between BiomassProtein (BMP), Center for Membrane Filtration at Aalborg
University (AAU), the membrane filtration company MMS (MMS), GreenLab
Skive (GLS) and Thise Dairy (TM). There will be continuous optimization on the process, and the food proteins produced will be analyzed for food properties and used for the development of new food products. Operational and production experiences from the prototype plant will form the basis for the establishment of larger central production plant, first by expanding the GLS factory and subsequently in other grass protein plants.
